Wolvercote Montessori Nursery is a warm, welcoming early years setting in North Oxford, offering an authentic Montessori experience for children aged two to five.

Established in 1993 and part of Oxford Montessori Schools, we provide a calm, thoughtfully prepared environment where children learn through curiosity, independence and joyful discovery.

Our small size and long-standing staff team mean every child is seen, understood and supported as an individual. With rich, natural learning materials, beautiful outdoor spaces and a philosophy rooted in respect, we give children the foundations they need to grow in confidence and thrive.

Our Approach

Montessori at the heart of learning

Children learn best when they follow their own interests. Our Montessori classrooms are designed to promote independence, concentration and purposeful activity. Children choose their own work, explore at their own pace and develop a genuine love of learning that lasts.

A calm, child-centred environment

Every part of the nursery is designed with the child in mind — from low shelves and natural wooden resources to peaceful, inviting spaces that nurture focus and creativity.

Learning through real experience

We combine Montessori materials with hands-on activities linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), covering language, communication, early maths, creativity, physical development and understanding the world.

What Makes Us Special

Wolvercote Montessori Nursery is a small, nurturing community registered for just 26 children, creating an intimate atmosphere where every child receives close attention and warm, consistent care.

Our experienced and stable staff team are highly skilled in Montessori and Early Years practice, with many having been part of the nursery for years. This continuity gives children a strong sense of security and support.

Children enjoy rich indoor and outdoor learning environments, with thoughtfully prepared classrooms and beautiful natural spaces where they can garden, explore nature, climb, balance and play freely.

We place a strong emphasis on communication and early literacy, using stories, songs, conversation and structured phonics – including Read Write Inc and WellComm assessments – to give children a confident start.

As an inclusive, child-centred setting, we welcome children with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds, offering tailored support for SEND and children learning English as an additional language. Every child is encouraged to develop independence, resilience and self-belief.

Wolvercote Montessori Nursery is closely connected with Forest Farm Primary, our sister school within Oxford Montessori Schools. Many children continue their Montessori-inspired education there, providing a smooth and supportive transition into the next stage of learning.

Parents are central to our approach. We build strong, respectful relationships with families, share regular updates on children’s progress and work closely together to support each child’s development and wellbeing.
