What makes us different & How do we teach?

We use tried and tested methods underpinned by insprired educational philosophy.  There are two essential strands. The Montessori Method developed by Dr Maria Montessori and the (MOE) or Mantle of the Expert developed by the educator Dorothy Heathcote.

Maria Montessori & Dorothy Heathcote developed child led approaches to education.  They shared a fundamental faith in a child's ability to learn when given the right environment and inspiration.

When are philosophical ideas introduced to the children?

  • Nursery aged children benefit from the Montessori Methods between 2 and 5/6 years.
  • Primary aged children also have a Montessori curriculum, in addition we run projects inspired by Heathcote's (MOE) and pay attention to the standards set by the National Curriculum
  • In the senior school aspects of Montessori are adopted, projects are often based on MOE and we follow the National Curriculum and the syllabuses set up by Cambridge International Examinations Board.  OMS is an accredited CIE centre.

Montessori believed children's education should be an adventure, a co-operation between teacher and child that should lead to a lifelong love of learning.  She developed a full curriculum for both nursery and primary aged children.  Dorothy Heathcote's ideas create learning opportunities (rich projects) that offer children contexts for learning, that are realistic, relevants to children's lives, learning styles and abilities.
